Beaches worth putting on the map

Pera Gialos and Livadia

These are the easiest first swims from Chora, so they make sense when you want town life, food and sea to sit inside the same short route.

Maltezana and the eastern side

Maltezana gives Astypalaia a calmer eastern rhythm, with beaches that work well for longer sea time and a more open day away from the high town.

Agios Konstantinos, Vatses and Kaminakia

This side feels stronger once you accept that the road or the boat is part of the experience and not only a transfer toward a beach.

Pachia Ammos, Vathy and remoter edges

The more distant coast shows a rougher and more spacious Astypalaia, so it belongs to a day with fewer stops and more patience.

Do not treat all beaches as equal-distance choices. Chora beaches and outer coves belong to different kinds of days.
Maltezana usually works best as a full eastern-side plan rather than a quick add-on.
